Sponsorship · October 2026 · Auckland CBD

The whole city is the game.

A free, city-wide puzzle hunt across the Auckland CBD. Two weeks of play climaxing on the biggest pop-culture weekend of the New Zealand year. One campaign that puts your brand on the street, in players' hands, and inside a story thousands of Aucklanders will spend a fortnight playing.

Escape the City pentagram
Why this, why now

Built around the one weekend the whole fandom is already here.

On Labour Weekend 2026, the country's biggest pop-culture expo brings its largest crowd of the year to Auckland. For the two weeks leading into it, Escape the City turns the CBD into a game board, and hands sponsors the moment on a plate.

Ground floor. A handful of positions. Founding-partner terms.

This is the first edition of a new Auckland event. There is exactly one presenting partnership and a small number of branded positions. Partners who join now get founding pricing, first choice of position, and first right of renewal for every future edition.

The campaign your brand rides on

Not a logo on a lanyard.

Every tier attaches your brand to a coordinated, month-long campaign across five channels at once: the kind of integrated visibility that costs many times the sponsorship to assemble piece by piece.

Street

A CBD-wide outdoor campaign: large-format posters, ground decals and interactive street installations, live for the full two-week window and refreshed weekly.

Digital

Paid social (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook), Google Search and YouTube, running from late September and surging through the climax weekend.

Earned

A PR push on two strong angles: a free city-scale game taking over the CBD, landing on the biggest pop-culture weekend of the year.

In-hand

The companion app: every registration, map view, puzzle and prize screen is inventory your brand appears on.

Owned

A first-party email list built through pre-registration, with a post-event content wave and sponsor-offer follow-up.

The audience

Young, urban, and there to spend the day out.

01 / FANDOM

The fandom crowd

18–40. In town for the expo or adjacent to someone who is. Puzzle, gaming, tabletop and genre fans who travel for experiences and document everything.

02 / LOCALS

Experience-seekers

22–45. Couples and friend groups who fill their weekends with events. A free, clever city game with real prizes is exactly their night out.

03 / GROUPS

Corporate & organisers

Reached through the post-event list and a LinkedIn wave. Valuable for partners with team-building, group or gifting offers.

The mechanics

How the hunt actually works.

A pentagram has been mapped across five hidden CBD locations. Players hunt down all five nodes, crack the puzzle at each, and collect the keys, tracked live through the companion app, tying the physical streets to the digital game.

The hunt · ~2 weeks

Five nodes, live at once

All five CBD nodes go live together. Players visit any node, any time in the window, solve its puzzle and collect its key, with real-time scoring and a running leaderboard. AR street activations sit at each node, unlocking content when players arrive. One Sigil Sponsor owns each node.

The climax · expo weekend

The trap breaks

During the expo weekend (23–26 Oct), a live finale and grand prize draw closes the story and reveals who broke the trap. This is where the Trap Breaker presenting partner takes the stage and the grand prize carries their name.

Three ways to win · three named prizes
I

The Fastest

First to collect every key across all five nodes. Speed-run glory, tracked live on the leaderboard.

II

The Storyteller

Most of the dark urban-fantasy story uncovered, rewarding the players who go deep on the lore.

III

The Completionist

Every achievement completed. Each track feeds its own prize and the climax grand draw.

Each track is a Key Keeper prize sponsorship, with your brand named on that prize everywhere it appears, and seen by every registrant at sign-up and again at completion.

Campaign targets

The numbers we're building to.

Every figure here is a first-edition planning target, shown with what it measures and what it's based on. These are working assumptions from our own campaign plan, not guarantees or measured results. Sources are listed at the foot of this section, and every sponsor receives a post-event wrap report with the actual delivered numbers.

250,000+
Target

Total campaign reach

Combined gross impressions across every channel: paid social (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook), Google Search and YouTube, organic social, partner cross-promotion, and the CBD street campaign, across the full campaign window.

Basis: the sum of planned per-channel delivery in the campaign & media plan.1

500,000+
Target

Street campaign opportunities-to-see

Estimated gross opportunities-to-see for the outdoor street campaign — large-format posters, ground decals and installations — over the 14-day CBD activation window.

Pre-registrations captured

Unique, verified email sign-ups captured through pre-registration before and during the hunt — the first-party marketing list that outlives the event.

1,500+
Target

Players registered in the app

Player accounts registered in the companion web app to take part in the hunt (a subset of the pre-registration list who go on to create a player profile).

Basis: pre-registration to app-registration conversion in the campaign funnel.3

Players active during the hunt

Registered players who visit at least one node and actively play at some point across the two-week window.

Redemptions of sponsor offers and vouchers by players within 60 days after the event — a measure of post-event commercial value to sponsors.

Sources & method
  1. Escape the City campaign & media plan, P7 Agency Limited (2026) — the channel-level reach, PR and follow-up targets above are drawn from this plan.
  2. Phantom Billstickers 14-day CBD street schedule — the source of the street opportunities-to-see figure. Indicative and to be audited against Phantom's delivered site list.
  3. Campaign funnel assumptions — visitor → pre-registration → app registration → active player, including a ~25% landing-page registration rate, from the campaign plan.
  4. Audience-scale context — the anchor pop-culture expo weekend, publicly confirmed for 23–26 October 2026 at Auckland Showgrounds, which the event is timed to.

This is the first edition of the event, so there is no historical baseline. Every figure above is a working target and planning assumption from our own campaign plan — clearly labelled as a target, never presented as a guaranteed or historical result — and no independent third-party audience data is used. Every sponsor receives a post-event wrap report with the actual delivered numbers within two weeks of the event, and street opportunities-to-see are audited against Phantom Billstickers' delivered placements.

The rate card

Every tier, and the value case behind it.

All figures NZD, exclusive of GST. Cash, in-kind and hybrid packages all considered.

Tier · availability
Investment
The ROI case, in plain terms
The Trap Breaker
Presenting · 1 only
$8,000+ GST
Your brand is attached to every layer of a campaign whose combined street, digital and PR activity is several times the spend. At the 250,000–500,000+ combined-impression target, effective cost sits around $16–$32 per thousand, comparable to ordinary media, except this is presenting-partner association, prize naming, PR lead, two weeks of physical street presence and first position in front of a 3,000+ opt-in email audience. At the low end the media exposure alone washes its face; everything above is upside.
Sigil Sponsor
One per sponsor · 5 available
$2,000–2,500+ GST
Every active player has to visit your node to finish the game. At the 1,000+ active-player target, that's a thousand-plus visits where people stand at your brand for 3–5 minutes actively engaging: 50–80+ hours of accumulated, undivided brand attention, on top of two weeks of prime CBD street visibility. A fortnight of comparable poster placement alone typically costs about this much, with no game pulling people to it. For hospitality & retail node hosts: measurable foot traffic and vouchers redeemed at your till.
Key Keeper
One per sponsor · limited spots
$750–1,500or product
Prizes are the single most-repeated message in the campaign: "free to play, real prizes" leads every ad, and every one of the 3,000+ target registrants sees the prize screens at least twice. Sponsor with your own product and the prize demonstrates the product to exactly the audience most likely to buy it, with winner content you can reshare. Cost-per-engaged-view is a fraction of equivalent social spend, and redemptions are attributable in your wrap report.
Street Watcher
One per sponsor · open to all
$250–500or voucher / swap
For less than a week of boosted posts, your business is part of a city-wide story with professional creative, PR and street presence behind it, and the players are literally on your block. A voucher swap can make the cash cost effectively zero while putting a redemption offer in front of every player. For a small CBD business, one campaign-attributed regular pays for it.
